Mediation Information
About Mandatory Mediation
Thanks to recent legislation passed by state lawmakers, qualifying Coloradans facing eviction are entitled to mandatory mediation at no cost. This means that if you’re a tenant in Colorado receiving Supplemental Security Income, Social Security Disability Insurance, or cash assistance through the Colorado Works Program, you have access to this crucial service. Exceptions apply for tenants living in homes with fewer than six units.
Our Services
At Colorado Housing Connects, we offer free tenant-landlord mediation services in Denver and Adams counties.
Our program caters to a wide range of housing disputes, including but not limited to:
In Adams County, our focus is on diverting parties away from court-sanctioned eviction proceedings towards mutually beneficial solutions such as rental assistance, payment plans, and lease compliance. Our Denver County mediation program serves for all manner of housing disputes, including maintenance issues, lease disputes, security deposit disagreements, and more.
Benefits of Mediation
Mediation is a confidential and effective tactic that not only protects housing for tenants but also saves landlords time and money. Tenants who may benefit from our services include those concerned about rent payments, delays in rental assistance, or experiencing lease violations. Landlords, on the other hand, can benefit from avoiding the costs associated with eviction filings, turnover expenses, and vacancies.
Current Landscape
Eviction filings have surged in recent years, surpassing pre-pandemic levels. Nearly 13,000 Denver households faced eviction filings in the past year alone. With the city on track for even higher numbers, it’s crucial for tenants and landlords to understand their rights and options.
